24 Years of Stoke: The New England Longboard Classic in Hull, MA

ree

Yesterday marked the 24th annual New England Longboard Classic at Nantasket Beach in Hull, MA—and what a perfect day it was. It was classic sweatshirt weather: a little cloudy with the sun peeking out just enough to keep things cozy but bright. The waves were small (my favorite 'baby waves' lol)—perfect for a mellow contest—and after last year’s monsoon-level rain, it felt like the surf gods were finally cutting us a break. The beach was buzzing, and the laid-back vibe made it the kind of day you just didn’t want to end.

This contest holds a special place in my heart. I grew up doing it every summer, showing up with my dad and family, boards strapped to the roof, wax melting in the sun. My dad would always take home first place (humble brag on his behalf), and while I never won myself, I still felt like a champ just being out there. The vibe, the community, the fun—it all made me love surfing even more.

Now it’s a total full-circle moment seeing my own kids out there in the lineup. They make me so proud every year—not just because they come home with a trophy, but because they’re truly having the best time. Huge credit goes to my husband—he’s always out there in the water during their heats, waist-deep, cheering them on and giving them that perfect push into the waves. He’s pretty great like that. And, let’s be honest, his surf obsession definitely helps.

After the contest wrapped, we all headed to High Tide at Nantasket Flatts for the afterparty. Live music, great food, and the best crew of surf families around. Huge shoutout to the Frodigh family, who continue to put their heart into this event year after year. It wouldn’t be the same without them.

Here’s to 24 years of longboard love—and hopefully many more to come!
