Full Moon Feels: June’s Strawberry Moon

There’s something undeniably magical about a full moon rising over the ocean—and this month, we’re in for a sweet one. June’s full moon is called the Strawberry Moon, and it’s happening at the perfect time to welcome summer with wide open arms (and sandy feet).

Despite what the name might suggest, the moon won’t actually look pink or red (though sometimes you get lucky with a golden glow at moonrise). The name "Strawberry Moon" comes from the Algonquin tribes and other Indigenous peoples, who used it to mark the short but delicious season for harvesting wild strawberries. It's a nod to timing, abundance, and nature's rhythm—everything we love about this time of year.

When to See It

The Strawberry Moon typically rises in late June, and in 2025, it hits its peak on Friday, June 13th (yes, Friday the 13th—spooky-sweet). Look to the southeastern sky just after sunset to catch it rising. If you’re on the East Coast, especially here in Scituate, it should make its appearance just as the sky turns that dreamy watercolor mix of purples and pinks.

Coastal Magic Under a Full Moon

There’s something about watching the moon rise over the water that feels grounding and awe-inspiring at the same time. Here are a few fun ways to soak it in:

  • Full Moon Beach Walk: Grab a sweatshirt (it still cools off at night!) and take a walk on the sand with friends or family.

  • Strawberry Picnic: Pack a blanket, pick up some fresh strawberries from Antonios Farm Stand at 454 First Parish Road in Scituate, Ma., and your favorite drink. Toast to summer's official arrival!

  • Moon Journaling: Use the energy of the full moon to reflect on what you're letting go of and what you're ready to call in this summer.

  • Tide Watchers Unite: Full moons bring higher tides—so double check your tide chart (👋 you know where to get one!) and plan those early morning low tide walks accordingly.

A Little Woo-Woo, If You're Into It

In astrology, June’s full moon falls in the sign of Sagittarius—a sign all about freedom, adventure, and truth-seeking. It’s the perfect time to dream big, book that spontaneous trip, or start that project you’ve been overthinking.

Whether you’re making moon water, setting intentions, or just admiring the view from your porch, the Strawberry Moon is a reminder to savor the season, soak in the beauty, and maybe eat a few berries while you’re at it.
